About the HSBC Sydney Sevens
With over 70 games of unpredictable excitement and energy locked in, the HSBC Sydney Sevens will see 16 of the world’s top men’s Sevens nations and 12 of the world’s top women’s Sevens nations split into respective tournament pools for three days of non-stop Rugby action. About the Game
Rugby Sevens is fast and furious, there’s nothing like it. Each game runs for 2 x Seven minute halves (with the exception of the final which will be 10 minute halves). Each team consists of 12 players - seven on the field during the match and a bench of 5. The winner of the Sydney leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series wins the local tournament Cup.
About the HSBC World Series
The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is an annual worldwide series that features a culmination of the most entertaining and colourful tournaments known! From one side of the world to the other, men’s and women’s national Sevens teams compete for series points with an overall champion for both crowned at the end of the season based on points accumulated throughout.
How does it work? - Part 1
Play on Day 1 and Day 2 of the tournament consists of men and women’s pool matches on a round robin basis, rolling into back-to-back play off matches through the evening of Day 2 and Day 3 as each team works to lock in the highest finishing position possible and collect as many Series points as possible! It’s all to play for – where will your team finish?
How does it work? - Part 2
Following completion of all the pool matches, the first and second placed teams in each pool progress to the knock out rounds of Cup Championship. The Third and fourth placed teams of each pool progress to the knock-out rounds of the Bowl Championship. The winners of each game move into the Semi-Finals and then the Final, where the winner of the HSBC Sydney Sevens will be crowned!
